Thrill of the Grill 5K

Today, Ryan and I participated in our first 5k, Central Market's Thrill of the Grill. Ryan was a rockstar and turned in a really good time 26 minutes and some odd seconds.  I on the other hand was not as awesome. I turned in a time around 29 minutes and a few seconds. Under 13 minutes per mile, but no where near where I'd like to be.  Anyway, here are a couple of pictures, one of Ryan and I waiting at the starting line and the other of the race about to begin.

Although running in these races isn't really my thing, I am sure that I will do another one of these in the future. Not the near future as summer is fast approaching and I am not running in 90+ degree heat. I do think that we might just participate in this same 5k again next year. It was really well run, not too big of a race (only 1,700 runners) and we got an excellent Central Market breakfast afterward. All in all a wonderful day, minus the running and all. Just kidding!

Too Short A Time

Our littlest girl Eve passed away unexpectedly yesterday. She seemed just fine in the morning, but by the time Ryan and I got home for work around 9 hours later, she was gone. It appears as if she had contracted a strong strain of pneumonia that killed her. Unfortunately, she also seems to have passed it along to Astrid, one of our older rats, who is now fighting for her life.  We are doing everything we can for her, all I am hoping for is that she isn't in pain.  Yesterday was a difficult day indeed.

Nothing Much

Nothing much has been happing lately.  Simply a lot of work, a little golf and some relaxation time. Seeing as how today was Easter, Ryan and I celebrated with 9 holes of golf at Brookhaven's President's course followed by dinner at BJs.  It was excellent.  I played horribly overall, but had a few really great shots. I am slowly getting better at golf, I think, it just feels like the way I play is shifting right now.  I feel like I am starting to understand how to place the ball as opposed to simply praying that I actually hit it.  I think I have many years to come of playing many wonderful courses with my husband.

Happy Easter!

Ah, Brookhaven

What a wonderful day! Ryan and I played a gorgeous 9 holes of golf at Brookhaven Country Club.  After he royally kicked my butt, we headed to the 5Five Grill for drinks and appetizers.  Soon, my parents arrived to join us for dinner. It was fajita night so we all had all the queso, chips, rice, beans, enchiladas and fajitas we could eat. We also got $1.50 margaritas. Yum! I'm so blessed to be able to spend time with my family so often, especially at so many amazing local clubs.  I can't wait until next time!

Two New Loves

Meet the two newest additions to our family, Velma (on the left) and Eve (on the right).  They are the best little rattlets we have added to our family in quite some time. They fit right in very quickly and they are already Yogie fans!  It was very hard to lose both Daphne and Hazel so suddenly, but these two are already bringing a lot of joy to our home.  I can't wait to watch them grow!

The Day She Became Mrs. Banowsky

Yesterday one of my best friends, Caitlyn, got married to the love of her life, David. It was one of the most beautiful and fun weddings I have ever been to. The wedding itself was outdoors at Fountain Place in downtown Dallas. It was a bit windy, but a lovely ceremony full of love and life. I, of course, cried when Caitlyn and David read the vows they had written to one another. I could tell how in love they truly are.

Caitlyn selected a beautiful robin's egg blue and brown theme complete with bird end egg accents. It was so sweet yet elegant, as you can see from the cake below.

One of my other friends, Leila, was one of the bridesmaids.  She brought her boyfriend Daniel with her.

Aren't they sweet? Daniel and Leila met while they both attended UT Austin. They are both moving to Seattle, Washington soon though, and I will miss them terribly. It seems as if all of Ryan and my friends are moving away.  Don't get me wrong, I am super excited that she is happy and has a job that she will love, I just wish she and Daniel would live closer.  Alas, I have gotten sidetracked.  This post is really about Cait and David and their special wedding day.

I am so excited that Cait had a most awesome wedding day, but even more than that, I am excited that I got to see two of my great friends, Lei and Cait, because this is probably one of the last times we will be together for awhile.  At least until Leila decides she wants to get married (hint, hint). These girls and I have been through quite a bit together in the last 7 years, and I will always be there for them as I know they will be for me.

Finally, and most importantly, I had a great time with my husband.  It brought back memories of our wedding day, which was only a short year and a half ago. We had the best time dancing, singing and just being silly.  What a blessing!

This was one of the best weddings I have ever been to and Ryan and I can't wait for the ones in the near future!

Also, for your viewing pleasure, here is a video of Cait and her dad during the Father Daughter Dance.  What a fun family!

Who doesn't love the Crocodile Rock?!

And finally, a video of the first dance.  Awww...

It's A Boy for Kelsey and Adam

So today, I found out that my best friend from college, Kelsey, is having a baby boy! That means that both Ryan's college roommate and my college roommate will both have boys. Ryan's best friend and his wife have a little one named Henry, whom I have blogged about before.

Isn't he the sweetest?

He is my favorite little guy, so Kelsey's baby boy will have a lot to live up to!  I am sure that her little boy will be absolutely perfect though.  I can't wait to meet him, hold him and love on him.  Although Adam, Kelsey's husband, has two sisters, Kelsey just has brothers.  Since I consider Kelsey to be like a sister, I am hoping that I will be like an Aunt to this little boy as he grows up.  Nothing would make me happier.

Anyway, get here soon little boy...we can't wait to meet you!

Alexander Morrison Golf Season

For the past couple of years Ryan and his friend Mike have played multiple rounds of golf per year to see who could win the most rounds of match play. Ryan wanted a logo to use for their 2011 season, so I put a little something together.

Cute, huh?  I am a fan, but of course I made it. May the best man win the 2011 season!

Golfing at Hackberry Creek

Today was absolutely the most beautiful day that I have ever spent at a golf course. Ryan decided to warm up a bit, but I didn't feel like it, so I sat and enjoyed the breeze in the cart. I was lucky I didn't because I got to witness the cutest thing ever. I saw a momma squirrel carrying a little balled up baby squirrel in her mouth.  It was adorable!

After Ryan warmed up, we set out for the first hole.  I ended up playing like crap all day.  I hadn't played Hackberry Creek before, so the new course design through me off a bit.  It is also a very difficult course. Ryan, on the other hand, played the best front nine holes of golf he ever had, and even though his back nine score wasn't so great, it was still his second best round of golf ever at Hackberry Creek, which he has played a lot.

It was a fun day, although I would have enjoyed it more had a played a bit better.  I guess there is always next time.

Battle for the Cupcake

I will keep this special little story to myself, to protect the innocent.  All I can say is that my husband fought tooth and nail for this cupcake his boss gave him to give to me. It's the best cupcake I ever ate, not just because it was from one of my favorite bakeries, but because my husband had to perform some covert antics to get it home to me.  I heart cupcakes and my husband!
