A Golf Baby Shower for Grayson Kent

Yesterday was our family and friend baby shower to celebrate the upcoming arrival of Grayson Kent Alexander! Usually baby showers are pretty much just women who eat cake and play shower games. At least stereotypically. Not so much my style. So instead we had a party for all of our friends, men included, filled with beer, brats, and burgers. It was quite the event! Ryan's parents were able to fly in from Colorado and were a big help. I also got to see friends from all walks of my life, old bosses, old coworkers, current coworkers, old teachers, and other friends. It was so nice to have everyone come out for a little while to celebrate this new life! Grayson got some wonderful presents to get him started out right and everyone who joined us seemed to have a great time. Now we are just counting down the days until Grayson joins our family!

Ryan's 30th

For Ryan's 30th birthday he decided he wanted to do something low key with just a few family members and friends. We planned to have a pool party after he and his friend Mike golfed all morning, but sadly we got rained out. Instead, we just met for dinner at Brookhaven after their round ended. My parents went as did Ryan's sister and Mike's wife and children. We had a great time just hanging out and chatting with one another. After dinner was over, I brought out Ryan's favorite cupcakes that I had gotten earlier in the day. Smores cupcakes from Meringue Bakery in Addison. It was a relaxed and fun 30th. Here's to the next decade!

4th of July in Addison

Since my pregnant self wasn't really in the mood to drive out to a crowded field to watch the fireworks this year, Ryan and I decided to rent a hotel room where we could watch the fireworks from the balcony. This turned out to not just be a good idea, but a great one! My parents joined us and brought Thai food. We were able to stroll in and out of the air conditioning at will. There was no traffic to contend with. The room even afforded us the opportunity for a free beer, wine and canapé happy hour. Yes, this would have been better had I been able to partake in the alcohol part, but the canapés were pretty good!

Getting to see one of the top 10 firework shows in the country from the privacy of our own balcony while eating our own inexpensive food and drinking our own inexpensive alcohol and then not having to deal with traffic and being able to just jump into bed? Priceless!
