Tell Me Something Good

Today starts an exciting journey for Ryan and me. We just contacted realtors to come and look at our home and put it on the market so we can move! We have been planning this for awhile now, but I can't believe the time has finally come. We are looking at hopefully put our house on the market in February, so our first realtor interview is next week. I have to admit I'm a bit nervous. This is the house that Ryan had pretty much when I met him. It is the first house we lived in together. It is a pretty special place. Unfortunately it is too small with inadequate storage for us and too far from where we both work.

Our plan is to sell the house and move into an apartment while we look for a new home. That way we can look and buy leisurely and then do any upgrades that are necessary prior to having to move in. I'm not sure I'm quite ready for this journey, but here we go!

Sugar Addiction Update

So maybe starting this whole thing on Thursday didn't happen. In fact, I had frozen yogurt on Friday, a cupcake at a birthday party on Saturday, and ice cream on Sunday. Fail, indeed. I guess it was stupid to try and start this no sugar for a week thing when we planned to go out of town and head to a birthday party to boot. So,the good news? I haven't had any overt sugar, except for the dark chocolate I said I would eat in strict moderation, since Monday. That means I have had 5 days with no overt sugar! A big accomplishment for me, actually. So what has that meant for weight loss? I have had no other real changes to my diet, because I eat pretty healthy except for my sugar cravings, but I have lost 3 lbs! Not a lot, but a lot for just 5 days. I'll take it.

Now I'm sure that I will eat some sugar here and there, but maybe not until I lose a couple more pounds. Who knew it was sugar holding me back from weight loss?!

Just keep swimming...just keep swimming...

Happy Birthday Henry

This weekend Ryan and I went to Austin of his friend's, son's 1st birthday. Henry is the most adorable kid and it was so much fun to share his birthday with him. Amanda, his mom, did a Sesame Street themed party because Henry loves Elmo. It was very cute and fun for all of the little kids in attendance. I have to say, I was a little bit of the odd man out as all the women had kids or were pregnant while I have none and am not. It was still a good time though, as I always love getting to see the Mos. We miss them a ton!

Anyway, Happy 1st Birthday Henry! We can't wait to see you again soon!

Maybe It Isn't About Weight Loss

Hi, my name is Charlotte and I am a sugar addict.

So as I just posted a few days ago, I am for sure trying to lose some more weight. Here's the deal. I eat pretty darn well. I eat fresh fruits and veggies. I don't eat red meat more than 1-2 times per month. I eat very little white flour and dairy. I don't have any milk in my diet (I'm only drinking Almond Milk). I don't eat things like mayonnaise and ketchup. I eat mostly organic veggies and fruits. I walk at least 1.5 miles 5 times per week. But I am utterly, hopelessly addicted to sugar.

Cupcakes, Cookies and Ice Cream are my vices. So, I had my last bite of sugar, other than slight amounts of dark chocolate, for awhile. Now I am not going to cut out sweets from my life forever, because that simply isn't reasonable or realistic. I do, however, need a major detox.

Granted, I will have sugar in my diet because there are tons of foods that have sugar in them, from crackers to bread. I am talking about detoxing from overt sugar. I admit, I had not one but two donuts this morning for breakfast. But, for the next week, no overt sugar. Bye bye cakes, cookies, pies and the like. The only exception I may make is one or two bites of Pecan Pie at Salt Lick when we head to Austin this weekend. Other than that, I can do this for at least one week, right? (Crossing my fingers tight...)

I'm Losing It

No for real this time. I really want to lose some more weight. I lost 10 pounds last year and was fairly happy with myself. Then my weight creeped up a pound, then two pounds. All I can say is I am not going back. I have to lose the couple pounds I have gained back and about 20 of his little friends. From where I am at now, I need to lose another 15-21 pounds. Now I am not in an unhealthy BMI, nor am I considered overweight by most tables and charts out there. But, I need to do this for me.

What I will do:
  • Eat less, move more
  • Walk 1.5 miles/5 days per week = 7.5 miles a week minimum
  • Try
  • Not give up

What I won't do:
  • Beat myself up about my weight
  • Get mad at myself for not being perfect with my regimen
  • Give up all "bad" foods
  • Be horribly upset if I don't make my goal

My overall goal? Be down to the top part of my goal weight range by 3/10/12. That's a loss of around 15 pounds in two months. That is a little less than 2 pounds per week. I can do this and that little sidebar tape measure on my blog will hold me accountable.

(PS: This has nothing to do with it being a new year. This is not my resolution. This is my health and my life. Period.)

New Foodie Finds Site: DFW Food Truck Foodie

A new addition to Foodie Finds: DFW Food Truck Foodie. I have to admit that I have never eaten anything from a food truck, but they so intrigue me. We are just now getting quite a few food trucks in the DFW Metroplex. Up to now, I had really only see them in Austin. The next time I see a food truck in the area, I promise to stop and then write a review about what I try. That is kinda what this blog is all about, complete with pictures. Check it out!

New Year's Double

Ryan and I decided that to ring out 2011 and ring in 2012, we would run in the New Years Double event. Ryan chose to run a 1/2 marathon on New Years Eve and a 5k on New Years Day. I chose to run a 5k both days. I did okay, but Ryan did awesome. He won second place in his division for the 5k. So proud! The first day we ran, we received half of a medal. The second day we ran, we received the other half and a casing medal they both fit into. They are awesome. We also got a tech tshirt and a long sleeved tech tshirt, which were very nice as well. This was a pretty easy and fun race. Flat track, all sidewalk. I think we may have to consider coming out for these races again next year. Happy New Year!
