We Have Our House Back

After weeks on end of living in a torn up house, the work is DONE! Well we do still have to have the bathtubs refinished after the plumber scratched them up, but that is the least of my worries. It feels so good to have my home back! Now time for a little R&R for the weekend. Perfect timing!

Busy and Bored

Ryan has been so busy finishing up his summer college courses, that we haven't had time to do much of anything. He's so busy every night! This leaves me to myself most nights and I am getting pretty bored. Growing up I was never one to watch many movies, but I feel like I have seen a ton lately. Anyway, here's to another movie and TV night. I will be so glad when Ry's summer classes are over!

Game Night

Playing Trivial Pursuit with my Mom and Dad was a lot of fun last night! We went over and Mom made dinner and then we had game night. Of course we all knew that the person who was on Ryan's team would win as he is the master of trivial trivia, but it was fun anyway. We played men vs. women, so obviously the men won. I can't wait for another game night!

Tile, Tile and More Tile

So ever since the little leak in our AC caused mass chaos in our house for weeks on end, we have simply been trying to put everything back together again. One of the decisions we have to make is what kind of new tile we want laid in the bathroom. I thought it would be a fairly easy decision, but there were so many choices. Finally we did pick a textured tile that is a sandy white. We also decided that instead of relaying 12 inch tiles, we would lay more bathroom appropriate 4 inch tiles. I can't wait for them to get started! I can only hope that the bathroom will end up looking as good as it does in my mind.

Fire

So I heard some noise outside tonight so I went to the front window to check it out. It turns out our neighbors had called 911 for some reason still unbeknownst to me. There were 2 fire engines, a fire truck, a fire Suburban and an ambulance. They were all here for about 30 minutes, then they all left. I guess it was some kind of false alarm. I guess it is comforting to know that when you call 911 in Lewisville, they send a whole brigade!

Melting Pot for Ryan's B-Day

So, for Ryan's birthday my parents took us to Melting Pot for dinner. We tend to go there twice per year, once for Ry's birthday and once for mine. We all really like it. I think I like it the most because it is really an experience, plus the food is really good. Since we went on a Sunday night, it was really quiet and peaceful. The service wasn't that great, but the food was amazing! From the salad, to the meats, to the desert fondue, it was all great! My favorite things were the fillet mignon and the white chocolate amaretto fondue. I think Ryan, as always, pretty much liked everything. It was a fun night!

Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose

So last night, Ryan and I went down to The Cotton Bowl in Fair Park and were extras for the series finale of Friday Night Lights. It was a pretty awesome experience, although it got very trying near the end of the night, or should I say morning. We showed up at 4:15pm, got some seats in the shade and begun the wait. Little did we know that filming wouldn't begin until around 7pm. Once filming began, it was pretty neat to see all of the characters and fanfare surrounding the team in this episode. We ended up spending the next 7 hours cheering for both the East Dillon Lions (the home team) and the Hudgins Hawks. It was a fun time, but by the time 2am rolled around, Ryan and I both were pretty done with the experience. Needless to say, we are excited to watch Episode 13 of the final season of Friday Night Lights in hopes that our faces might have caught the camera at some point during long night of filming.

Taste of Dallas 2010

So two weeks ago, I was surfing around the internet and found out that Taste of Dallas was coming up. Me, Ryan and my parents decided to go. It was so much fun! The shuttles from the parking lot were timed perfectly, the food was cheep but great, and there was a lot to see and do! This was the first time that TOD was held at Fair Park and it seems to be a great location for it. While it was crowded, the lines were never too long and you weren't bumping into people, which was nice. I ended up eating a variety of things from BBQ Deviled Eggs to PecanCarmel & Seasalt Gellato. The best thing that I had overall though was lamb and beef gyro. It was awesome! Anyway, we have all decided that we are going to become "Taste Of" groupies and go to anything that starts with the words "Taste Of".

The Final Addition to the Now Fab Four

After going to get baby Astrid, we decided that we needed one more baby to round out our rattie family. So, after a long search for just the right little girl, we found a beautiful Russian blue and white baby. Meet Cordelia!

The AC Leak Aftermath

I can't believe what has happened in our house! One little, or what turned out to be big, leak from our AC and the whole house is damaged. The damage is in the living room, kitchen, laundry room, hall and downstairs bath. Who thought one little leak could damage our entire home. So far we have paid the Restoration Specialist water abatement team, the AC repairman and the plumber. Still to come are the return of the restoration specialist, the return of the plumber and a new visit from the general contractor. Oh, and let's not forget that we have had 6 large industrial fans and a de-humidifier the size of me going for 24 hours thus far with two days to go. They're so hot and loud that Ryan and I've been eating out and living upstairs. We even had to move the girls into our bedroom because it's SO LOUD!

Anyway, I'm ready for the general contractor and plumber to come so we can get the sheet rock repaired, the wood floor re-done, the baseboards replaced, the plumbing repaired and everything painted and cleaned up. I want our house back!

Mini Golf at Golden Bear

Today Ryan and our friends Mike and Amanda went to play some mini golf, excuse me, I meant some golf on the 18 hole putting course as they call it at Golden Bear. Even though I came in last place, it was a fun time. After golf we hit up the Rosa's for some great Mexican food. It was a great end to this awesome Fourth of July weekend!

Golfing at Oakmont - My First 18

About two months ago, I bought a set of clubs and started going with Ryan to the driving range. I decided I liked golf and after going to the range about 10 times, it was time to take the plunge and play 18. We went to Oakmont Country Club in Corinth. It was a really pretty course and there were even a couple of holes that I played pretty well. Since this is my first time to play a round of golf, I don't have a handicap yet, so I ended up shooting a 150. Considering that is 30 strokes under the maximum, I was actually pretty excited. I obviously still have a long way to go, but I am ready and willing to learn. Ryan shot a 113 and played pretty well. All in all, it was a fun day at the course!

Our Newest Addition: Baby Astrid

After having lost a couple of rats lately, Ryan and I decided this little girl would make the perfect addition to our family. Meet Astrid!

Our Girls

Though we aren't quite ready to have children yet, Ryan and I do have some rat babies that are currently our "children". We currently have two gorgeous girls that we love dearly.

This is Daphne. She is an adorable girl who is all black except for white socks and a white belly. She likes to explore and is a bit stubborn.

This is Hazel. She is just a black and white little mutt who never really grew from her baby size. She is super hyper, but has been tamed enough to learn a few little tricks, like how to give kisses.

Rats are so smart and although people think we're crazy, they really do make awesome and loving pets. We definitely aren't in a place in our lives where we want to have the responsibility of caring for a dog, and Ryan is allergic to cats, so rats are a really great addition to our family. Although they are cute now, they were even more adorable as rat pups, as you can see below.
