Moving and Shaking

So, we moved! It has been a pretty hectic time as we had to close one day and move the next. Luckily the buyers signed the papers on a Friday, so we ended up having the weekend to pack and move. We were scheduled to close on Monday, which is when Ryan and I signed, so if they hadn't signed early, we would have literally had one day to move. So, with the weekend, it wasn't as bad. Laurel, Ryan's sister, came over to help. We had pretty much packed all the boxes before the weekend, so it was just moving the boxes to our temporary apartment. We had around 50 boxes, crazy I know, so it took around 4 hours. Then, on Tuesday morning, the movers came and moved all of the furniture and appliances. It only took them about 2 hours and only cost us $225. It would have taken forever for us to move the furniture, so it was an easy choice.

Now, we are temporarily living in an apartment while we look for our next home. This was always kinda the plan, but selling our home in only two days made it a necessity. To be honest, I love our little apartment. It is roomy and has a lot of natural light, plus it has an awesome 300 square foot garage which allowed us to clean out our storage unit and save a bit of money. We have already been looking at homes, but we went ahead and signed a 7 month apartment lease, as we assume it will take us a bit to find the next home we want to buy and do any slight cosmetic work it may need.

Overall, this whole process has been really great! It could have taken us a year to sell our home, we might not have been able to find an apartment we loved, and this all could have been a big headache. Luckily, Ryan and I are both happy where we are at and excited to find our next home!

We aren't really planning on decorating the apartment since we are only planning on being here a few months, but here are a few pictures of our temporary home.

I'm so proud of Ryan! We just got back from Austin where Ryan ran the Austin Half Marathon. He hasn't been able to run much lately with all of the long hours at work, homework, class and selling the house. But, he shaved around 10 minutes off of his time from the last time he ran a half. Also, he said it was the hardest course he had ever run, what with all of the hills in downtown Austin. I am super proud of his committment and dedication to this sport. Until the next race...

Going Once, Going Twice, I'm Sold!

So we took a huge leap and put the house on the market on February 7. We had a showing on February 8, so we were really excited the house was already getting some attention with only just coming on the market. Then, we had a showing on February 9. It was a couple who was familiar with the neighborhood and was very interested in the house. Then, the craziest thing happened. At 8pm, just two hours after they saw the home, they made on offer. The great thing thing was is that it was truly a Godfather moment; they gave us an offer we couldn't refuse. So, just two days on the market and we sold our home for almost what it was listed for. What a blessing!
Now, starts the hard part. Waiting. We have to wait to make sure the house appraises. This is making us a little nervous, but our realtor has assured us that we have nothing to worry about. The appraisal will be tomorrow at 1pm. Here's to hoping that it goes okay. The second hurdle will be actually getting to and through closing on February 27th. Having never sold a home before, I knew nothing about these challenges. I figured someone made you an offer, you accepted it, and they paid you. It turns out it isn't quite that simple. The final hurdle will be moving out in just one day. Yes, you heard me, just one day. We close on February 27th and have to be out of our home by February 28th. Not impossible, but stressful to be sure.

Just today we put a deposit down on an apartment where we will live for seven months while we look for our new home. It is a great apartment, and we were truly lucky to even find one! When we started to look yesterday, it seemed that we might be out of luck as most apartments were almost full! We ended up having to get a two bedroom apartment, even though we only really need one bedroom for such a short period of time, because it was all that they had available. Anyway, this is going to be a stressful two weeks, followed by an intense two months. I only hope it brings Ryan and I closer together as we buy a home and look forward to raising a family there.

These are our apartments from the outside. Pretty!
